The reserve ratio is an indicator of the financial cushion a company has built up for the future. The higher the retention rate, the more financial cushion a company has to deal with drastic changes or crises at any given time.

For example, if Company A has a retention rate of 100%, it means that Company A has saved 100% of its profits so far, which means that even if Company A runs into a deficit, it can be covered from its reserves, indicating that it has the financial strength to deal with a sudden emergency.

To use an analogy, if you were to pack a suitcase, how much wiggle room you leave in it would determine how well you would be able to cope with an emergency. For example, if you didn't pack enough clothes and supplies when you went on a trip, it would be difficult to cope with a sudden change in weather or emergency, but if you were prepared and left enough room, it would be easier to cope with an emergency.

The reserve ratio is one of the most important indicators of a company's financial health and can help you determine if your business is operating in a financially sound manner. Investors should pay close attention to the reserve ratio to understand the financial health of a company before deciding to invest in it, as a high reserve ratio indicates that the company is well prepared to ensure long-term stability.
