인증배출권(CERs, Certified Emission Reductions)이란?

인증배출권(CERs, Certified Emission Reductions)은 국제적인 온실가스 감축 및 배출권 거래 제도인 청정개발체제(CDM, Clean Development Mechanism)에서 발생하는 감축 결과를 나타내는 단위입니다. CERs는 1톤의 이산화탄소(CO2)에 대한 감축량을 나타냅니다.

청정개발체제는 개발도상국에서 온실가스 감축 프로젝트를 진행함으로써 감축된 온실가스 배출량을 인증배출권으로 발급받아, 이를 선진국의 온실가스 감축 목표 이행에 사용할 수 있는 국제적인 거래 체계입니다. 이러한 체계는 개발도상국에 기술이전과 투자를 촉진하고, 선진국에게는 비용 효율적인 온실가스 감축을 가능하게 하며, 기후 변화를 완화하는데 도움이 됩니다. 인증배출권은 국제적인 시장에서 거래될 수 있으며, 다양한 기업이나 정부에 의해 구매되어 온실가스 배출량 감축 목표 달성에 활용됩니다.

 

Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) are a unit of account for reductions resulting from the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), an international greenhouse gas reduction and emissions trading scheme. CERs represent the reduction of one ton of carbon dioxide (CO2).

The Clean Development Mechanism is an international trading scheme whereby GHG emissions reductions from GHG reduction projects in developing countries are issued as certified emission reductions, which can then be used to meet GHG reduction targets in developed countries. The scheme promotes technology transfer and investment in developing countries, enables cost-effective GHG reductions in developed countries, and helps mitigate climate change. Certified credits can be traded on international markets and are purchased by various companies and governments to help them meet their greenhouse gas emission reduction targets.
