수력이란?

수력은 물의 움직임에 의해 생성되는 기계적 에너지로, 전력 생산에 활용되는 재생 가능 에너지의 한 형태입니다. 수력 발전은 수력을 이용하여 전기를 생산하는 과정을 말합니다. 주로 강, 호수, 저수지 등의 물 움직임을 이용하여 터빈을 회전시켜 발전기를 구동하고, 전기를 생성합니다.

수력 발전은 전 세계적으로 널리 사용되는 재생 에너지 중 하나로, 기후 변화에 따른 온실가스 배출량을 줄이는 데 기여하며, 고정된 에너지원에 의존하지 않는 장점이 있습니다. 그러나 수력 발전은 물의 유량에 영향을 받아 에너지 생산량이 변동할 수 있으며, 대규모 댐 건설과 관련된 환경 파괴, 생태계 영향, 사회적 문제 등의 단점도 존재합니다.

수력 발전의 종류에는 대형 수력 발전, 소형 수력 발전, 펌프드 스토리지 수력 발전 등이 있습니다. 대형 수력 발전은 큰 댐과 발전소를 통해 전력을 생산하는 방식이며, 소형 수력 발전은 작은 규모의 시설을 통해 지역 전력 수요를 충당하는데 사용됩니다. 펌프드 스토리지 수력 발전은 전력 소비가 낮은 시간대에 물을 높은 곳으로 펌핑해 저장하고, 전력 수요가 높은 시간대에 다시 이 물을 사용해 전력을 생산하는 방식입니다.

However, hydropower also has disadvantages, such as fluctuating energy production due to water flow, environmental degradation, ecosystem impacts, and social issues associated with building large dams.


Types of hydropower include large hydropower, small hydropower, and pumped storage hydropower. Large-scale hydropower involves generating power through large dams and power plants, while small-scale hydropower is used to meet local power needs through smaller facilities. Pumped storage hydropower involves pumping water to higher elevations to store it during off-peak hours, and then using that water to generate power during peak demand hours.
