도메인이란?

도메인(Domain)은 인터넷에서 웹사이트를 찾기 위해 사용되는 고유한 주소를 의미합니다. 컴퓨터와 인터넷에 연결된 모든 기기는 고유한 IP 주소를 가지고 있지만, 숫자로 이루어진 IP 주소는 사람들이 기억하기 어렵습니다. 따라서, 도메인은 숫자로 이루어진 IP 주소를 사람이 쉽게 기억하고 사용할 수 있는 문자로 변환해줍니다.

도메인 이름은 일반적으로 두 부분으로 구성됩니다. 첫 번째 부분은 웹사이트 이름이고, 두 번째 부분은 도메인 확장자라고 불리는 최상위 도메인(TLD)입니다. 예를 들어, "www.example.com"에서 "example"은 웹사이트 이름이고, ".com"은 최상위 도메인입니다.

도메인을 사용하려면 도메인 등록 기관(Domain Registrar)에서 원하는 도메인 이름을 등록해야 합니다. 이 과정을 통해 도메인 이름이 인터넷상에서 고유하게 사용되고, 다른 사람이 동일한 도메인을 사용할 수 없도록 보호됩니다. 도메인 등록은 일정 기간동안 유효하며, 만료 기간이 다가오면 재등록해야 계속 사용할 수 있습니다.
